Board of Directors
Susanna Duke, Board President, is an attorney who has spent more
than 25 years at Plum Creek Timber Company, Inc. Her work currently focuses on employment
issues, litigation management, and compliance with laws and regulations. She was
widowed in 2000 and participated in Healing Center support groups. Susanna attended
Wilson College and the Temple University School of Law.
Flip Morse, ESQ., Vice President, is Senior Vice President, Administration,
at Nintendo of America Inc. Before joining Nintendo, he was a partner with the local
law firm of Perkins Coie. Flip was widowed in 1996; he and his children have participated
in Healing Center support groups. He received his undergraduate degree from Brown
University and graduated from the Harvard School of Law.
Rachel Greenley, Secretary, is a National Account Director with
Starbucks Coffee Company. Prior to Starbucks, Rachel was the Director of Business
Alliances at Hyatt Hotels Corporation in Chicago. She has worked in the sales and
marketing field for over 15 years. Her husband, Jim, died of leukemia in June 2002;
their twins, Sean and Julia, were four months old at the time. Rachel and her children
became Healing Center clients shortly after Jim's death. For the past two years,
Rachel has served as procurement chair for The Healing Center's annual fundraising
auction. Rachel graduated from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts.
Brett Miller, Treasurer, is a licensed CPA in the state of Washington
who has spent more than nine years at PricewaterhouseCoopers. His work has been
largely focused on providing audit services to clients in the venture capital, biotech
and software industries. He is a member of the Seattle community along with his
wife and two daughters. Brett is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University
at San Luis Obispo.
Shawn Hintz is a Senior Partner and consultant with PRIME Asset
Consulting, the institutional consulting division of UBS Financial Services, Inc.
Shawn is a current board member for CancerLifeline and is involved with other organizations
including Multiple Sclerosis, Cystic Fibrosis, and The Heuga Center. He is focusing
his efforts on fund development and marketing for The Healing Center. Shawn received
his undergraduate degree from Washington State University and received further accreditation
from the Investment Management Consultants Association at the Wharton School of
Business.
Jay Miller is a commercial real estate agent with Re/Max. He
is heading our facilities committee, and is also involved in the development effort.
Jay has chosen to work on behalf of The Healing Center because his mother died of
cancer when he was a young adult, and he was her primary caregiver during her illness.
He understands how valuable services like ours would have been for himself and his
siblings. Jay is a graduate of the University of Washington.
Abigail Carter was born in Philadelphia and raised in Toronto,
Canada. With her husband Arron Dack, she lived in London, Brussels and Boston before
settling in Montclair, NJ. Abigail began writing at the age of 38 as a form of catharsis
after her husband’s death in the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001. This
writing was published 2008 in her first book, a memoir, The Alchemy of Loss: A Young
Widow’s Transformation. Her work has also been published in SELF magazine, MSN.com
and in a newsletter for a September 11th organization, Tuesday’s Children. Before
she began writing, Abigail worked as a Web Project Manager for Audible.com, a company
that sells downloadable audio books. Abigail moved to Seattle, WA in 2005, where
she now lives with her two children, Carter, 9 and Olivia, 13.
Advisory Board
William Healey, MD, is a psychiatrist practicing locally. He
serves as The Healing Center consultant in that field. Bill graduated from Princeton
University and earned his medical degree from Baylor Medical School in Houston,
Texas.
Mary Herche has an extensive record of community-leadership activities.
She was responsible for bringing Rebuilding Together (formerly Christmas in April)
to Seattle and making it a Junior League project. She has served on the boards of,
and held offices with, Childhaven, St. Anne's School, Holy Names Academy (where
she chaired the capital campaign), U.W. Alumnae Board, and the Washington Women's
Foundation. She also serves on the Gonzaga University Board of Regents. Mary previously
taught and coached sports in the Edmonds and Northshore school districts, and currently
owns Woodway Designs. She is a graduate of Central Washington State College.
Jill Jacox-Tan, M Div, was formerly Director of Children's
Programs at The Healing Center. Jill has been offering grief counseling to children
and adults in the Seattle area for the past five years. Previously she worked with
homeless women and children in the Boston area, with Mother Theresa at her home
for the dying in Calcutta, and with severely neglected and disabled children at
an orphanage in Romania. Jill received her Master's degree from Boston Theological
Institute in Boston, Massachusetts. Her qualifications include intensive training
in childhood bereavement at The Dougy Center in Portland, OR, and a year-long program
at Bridges, a bereavement program in Tacoma.
Kay Monahan, LMT, BS, has been practicing as a licensed massage
therapist in Seattle for many years. She has been involved in the field of grief
and loss since the death of her sister in 1986. Kay graduated in Community Service
and Public Affairs from the University of Oregon.
Teresa Moore has a strong background of service in non-profit
organizations, including operations, event planning, procurement, corporate sponsorship,
donor relations, strategic planning, and community relations. In 1984 she was one
of the founders of Patrons of Cystic Fibrosis, which has raised more then $23 million
for research, and still serves the organization in an advisory capacity. Resa is
a member of the Children's Hospital Board of Trustees and the Holy Names Academy
Board of Trustees. She holds a Bachelors degree in Economics and a certificate in
Writing the Modern Memoir from the University of Washington.
Grady Paden, MD, is a physician with the University of Washington,
practicing at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Seattle. He provides
services to chronically and terminally ill patients and their families. He has completed
a sabbatical at Oxford, studying hospice care. Grady received his medical degree
from the University of Washington.
Kathleen Golden was formerly a technical writer and editor in
the aerospace and software industries. She serves as Board Secretary and currently
assists with the Healing Center's grant-writing effort. Widowed in 1999,
Kathi has been a Healing Center client. She holds a bachelors degree from the University
of Washington and bachelors and masters degrees from Seattle Pacific University.
Paula Wutte, MD, is an anesthesiologist practicing in Corvallis,
Oregon. She has supported the development of The Healing Center for many years.
She received her medical degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland,
Ohio.
