The Art of Loss: a Spotlight on Art about Grief
Time Is a Mother, Ocean Vuong
“What we’ll always have is something we lost”
Written after his mother’s death, this poetry collection by Vietnamese American writer, Ocean Vuong, explores the complex interconnectedness of grief and love as well as the importance of embracing that from which we want to look away: death, family, self. With tenderness, Vuong shows us what it means to survive with grace.
A Crow Looked at Me, Mount Eerie
“Our daughter is one and a half.
You have been dead eleven days.”
Washington native Phil Elverum’s plain lyrics and sparse arrangement make for an deeply intimate, diary-like account of his grief.
Written and recorded in the same room where his wife, Geneviève, died of cancer a few months prior, this album is raw and unflinching.

Special Thanks to our Youth Program Partners

In addition to being a champion of children's grief services throughout the Pacific Northwest, Safe Crossings Foundation has been a steadfast supporter of our work for many years. Their partnership and leadership has supported our programs beyond measure. We are grateful for their continued support.

This winter, Toys for Kids helped us reinvigorate our playroom, the venue for more than 75 kids' grief groups each year. With their support, we refreshed our toy bins, replenished our library, and made our space more welcoming for our youngest clients.
Donor Impact
Thank you to everyone who gave and helped spread the word for Children’s Grief Awareness Month and Giving Tuesday! Your generosity raised over $65,000 to keep our programs going, while your advocacy promoted meaningful ways of connecting with grieving kids.
As we roll into 2026, thank you for ensuring this free, lifesaving community can continue serving grieving families all across WA. We hope to celebrate you and the difference you’ve made at a get-together on March 26th, so please save the date and stay tuned for more details.
