The Art of Loss: a Spotlight on Art about Grief
Inheritances, Adam Tendler
After his father’s unexpected death, Tendler used the his small cash inheritance to commission 16 contemporary composers including Laurie Anderson, Nico Muhly, Missy Mazzoli, and Devonté Hynes, to write new solo piano works exploring grief, family, and the complex inheritances left behind.
The project was featured on Sunday Morning. You can watch the full segment here.
Gris
In this 2D platform-adventure game from Nomada Studio, we follow a young woman through the aftermath of a profound loss. Partially based on Elisabeth Kübler-Ross’s work, this game is explicitly about grief. Using very minimal text, Gris’s story is mostly told through music, color, and imagery.
