Racial Equity Statement
This is a critical moment in the world’s history. We are grieving the tragic and violent deaths of Rayshard Brooks, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, along with the many black lives lost before them as a global community.
The Healing Center’s core values include respect and compassion for all grieving people, as well as to hold space to process grief in a healing way. Generations of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) have faced the agony of oppression, violence and social injustice; a reality that opposes The Healing Center’s core values.
We stand by and in support of Black, Indigenous and People of Color within our community and across the globe. And we stand with Black Lives Matter and other organizations committed to dismantling racism, the status quo cannot persist.
As an organization, we are having conversations about the systems we participate in, what changes we can make within our organization, as well ways we can make changes within our community. To be transparent; we don’t have all the answers or a perfectly crafted long-term plan, but we have developed a short list of immediate actions we will take. And we’ll share an update on our progress and future plans in the coming weeks.
To close, we’ve included few resources for processing violent death. We know these resources are not enough, but we hope they can be a small source of help and guidance.
With Love,
The Healing Center
